Resolution shmesolution…

January seems to be the time we’re supposed to re-invent ourselves, get fit, lose weight, and quit every vice or bad habit we have.

I’m not sure why we’re not expected to do that kind of stuff at any other time of the year, but last January I decided that the whole “new year new you” shit smacking me in the face everywhere was a pile of rubbish. Sure, some tweaks are always good and it’s never a bad thing to want to be your best self, but maybe without so much hype, pressure, and expectation.

Just like last year we kicked off 2018 with a beach getaway. Therapy of the best kind: the ocean, sun, sand and endless blue skies does wonders for the soul. I do confess to {still} wanting to get fitter and healthier and am going to keep on trying to finally get there. But after embracing in 2017 it’s going to be in ways that I enjoy and that are more of the gentle and kind variety rather than of the intense sweat and pain variety that was the BBG ordeal of 2017. Less squats and more swimming.

I also swear that I’ll {FINALLY} throw out the scales, try to drink less booze, and try to stop swearing so much.

And that’s about it.

I should also promise not to buy anymore clothes but why pretend that’s ever going to happen?

Because you know there’s that rule where you have to buy something new while you’re away on holiays? Like a cool hat or beach cover up or swimsuit…

The notions of self love and self care are what’s been swirling around my head these last few weeks, and what I would like to pay some attention to in 2018. I had a lightbulb moment the other day when I imagined how different things would be if I looked after myself with the same zeal, passion, and dedication I give to caring for my family.

In keeping with that idea I started a very grown up skincare regime a few weeks ago. Five steps twice a day and I swear I can already see the difference in my skin. So much so that a few dabs of CC cream are enough to face the day. The winning combo looks like this:

1. Clinique cleanser

2. Clinique toner/clarifying lotion

3. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair {a.k.a. magic potion}

4. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum

5. Clinique Moisture Surge

Some mornings I swap the Clinique moisturiser for Ultraceuticals Ultra UV Protective due to it’s high SPF factor, especially if I know I’ll be outdoors a lot.

Post beach break and it’s back to vegetarian again, and geez it feels so good. It’s very possible that I had so much cheese and crackers while away that I just can’t stomach it anymore, and while I always opt more for salads than sausages, taking red meat out of my diet just works so well for my health and digestion that I can’t see myself being much of a carnivore ever again. In fact since going vegan in 2016 I’ve been surprised at how little I miss it. And how great is it when cafe’s offer vegan options that look and taste this amazing:

Quinoa with spinach and grilled vegetables, with beetroot relish and tomato chutney.

It really inspired me once I got back home to create some delicious light and healthy meals perfect for these hot summer days. Stay tuned for some new recipes which are in the works…

And we have had the most magical start to any year ever, when our beautiful neighbour and my daughters adopted big sister welcomed her first baby this week. Newborn babies are just so much more divine that human, like living breathing angels, and we already can’t stay away from him. Like my daughter said when we received word of his birth, how can you love someone so much you’ve never even met.

Magic stuff indeed.

Til next time. A.

  1. Happy New Year and Amen Ana!
This time of year is always so hectic in the race to be the bigger, better, more fabulous version of ourselves that we forget that at the end of the day we’re already bloody fabulous and we need to remember that.
Also, I swore I wouldn’t buy so many new clothes before I moved into my new place…that flew RIGHT out the window LOL! xo

    1. Happy new year! And how crazy is all the new you stuff, it’s like we’re being told we’re so shit house that we absolutely MUST improve ourselves! No thanks, lol. And I can only imagine your loving your new house, such a huge step, but there’s always enough for a little something fab from Kmart am I right?! 😉
