Let the home reno games begin

So it’s looking like the flood disaster of last year may have been a blessing in disguise, because we’re finally being forced to tackle the flooring we’ve pretty much hated since moving in.

And what a dizzying few months it’s been, what with insurance woes {because they can never make it simple, can they?}, decisions on what exactly to replace the damaged flooring with, and the domino-like way you go from fixing the floors to a whole house makeover.

Not that I’m complaining, because I just might get the Insta-worthy interior I’ve been fantasising about.

Okay so I probably won’t get my quartz countertop.

Putting together a colour scheme for multiple rooms is tricky, you want coordinated but not matchy, and I’m so over the chocolate brown monochrome look of the early 2000’s that I’m in desperate need of white, light, and softly muted.

The most surprising thing is that my husband and I are on the same page, and considering he’s always had the better eye I’m wondering if all the years of studying Pinterest hasn’t paid off. So far we’ve agreed on flooring, colour schemes, and the overall look I went for with my mood boards.

Yes. I made mood boards, you know how much I love a project.

I’m even excited at updating the laundry ffs.

Eventually there will be the master bedroom to make all gorgeous, and I guess within a couple of years it should all be done and it will hopefully all be so pretty I’ll never want to leave.

And I’m definitely not paying any attention to the one son telling me that my idea for a marble topped coffee table is hideous. He’s also the person whose bedroom resembled a cave for more years than I care to admit.

The next step, and it’ll easily be one of the worst ones, will be emptying out the whole downstairs in order to replace all the flooring, including everything from the dishwasher and fridge to the oven. Even after the great Kondo purge of January ’19 I have no idea where everything will be shifted to, nor what we’re actually going to be able to do downstairs while all that’s happening.

Although judging from the conversations happening at the moment, it’s a safe bet that I’ll need more than one margarita to get me through.
